Background:
The cities of Dilling and Kadugli in South Kordofan State have been facing severe humanitarian challenges due to ongoing conflict and siege, leading to large-scale displacement of civilians to safer areas within the Nuba Mountains.
In response, a humanitarian project was implemented at Enbal IDP Camp in Um Doreen Locality to provide direct food assistance to newly displaced families arriving from Kadugli.
Project Objectives:
- To alleviate the suffering of newly displaced families from Dilling and Kadugli.
- To provide essential food support contributing to the stability and survival of affected households.
- To strengthen humanitarian solidarity between local communities and the Sudanese diaspora abroad.
Target Group:
The project targeted 150 displaced families, equivalent to approximately 750 individuals, primarily women and children recently displaced from the city of Kadugli.
Provided Assistance:
The following food items were distributed to beneficiaries:
- 15 sacks of sorghum
- 2 sacks of beans
The total cost amounted to SDG 2,900,000, covering transportation, labor, and logistical expenses.
Partnership and Funding:
The project was implemented in partnership with OCAM Local Organization in the Nuba Mountains, with financial support amounting to USD 1,000 (approximately EUR 950) provided by the Solidarity of Nuba Mountains and Sudanese Community in the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
This contribution enabled the purchase and distribution of essential food supplies to the targeted displaced families within the camp.
Results and Impact:
- All targeted families received the planned assistance.
- The project improved short-term food security among displaced persons in Ambal Camp.
- It fostered community solidarity and encouraged voluntary humanitarian initiatives to support conflict-affected populations.
Recommendations:
- Continue humanitarian assistance to IDP camps in Um Dorein and other conflict-affected localities.
- Expand future interventions to include water, health, and education services for displaced children.
- Strengthen collaboration between local organizations and Sudanese diaspora networks to sustain humanitarian support efforts.
